MIRÉ - Our Cashmere

Our Cashmere 1.

CASHMERE IS NOT WOOL – THE SECRET OF CASHMERE

Origin: Wool comes from sheep, while cashmere comes from the fine undercoat of cashmere goats.

Softness & Texture: With fibers much finer than wool, cashmere offers an exceptionally soft, smooth, and refined feel, while wool can sometimes feel coarser.

Warmth & Weight: Cashmere is lighter yet warmer than wool. It is highly breathable and releases moisture quickly, whereas wool tends to feel heavier and dries more slowly.

Performance: Naturally elastic and wrinkle-resistant, cashmere retains its shape better than wool.

The Difference: This rare combination of lightness, warmth, softness, and resilience makes cashmere one of the world’s most luxurious natural fibers.

ETHICAL SOURCING, IMPECCABLE INTEGRITY

We believe great style begins with genuine connection. That’s why MIRÉ works directly with trusted herders in Inner Mongolia—no middlemen. These long-standing partnerships, built on transparency and care, ensure that every cashmere fibre is harvested responsibly and traceably.

For over 30 years, our partners have cared for their herds with respect, passing on time-honored knowledge of producing the world’s finest cashmere. From fibre to finished garment, every stage at MIRÉ is guided by sustainability, craftsmanship, and conscious design. Each piece is more than clothing—it’s timeless, enduring, and crafted to be loved for years.

Our Cashmere 3.

CRAFTED FOR LASTING QUALITY

Every MIRÉ sweater begins with the finest fibres, gently combed by hand to preserve their natural softness. From washing and spinning to dyeing and knitting, each step happens under our roof, allowing us to maintain exceptional quality while reducing our carbon footprint.

The result: garments that combine warmth and lightness, softness and strength—cashmere designed to last, season after season.

Our Cashmere 4.

SUSTAINABILITY AS A STANDARD

The beauty of cashmere depends on the fragile ecosystems of Inner Mongolia. Protecting these landscapes and the animals that make our fibres possible is central to our mission.

As proud members of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA) and holders of GOTS and EcoCert certifications, we commit to the highest environmental and ethical standards. From herding and harvesting to design and production, every choice we make is shaped by responsibility—for people, animals, and the planet.

For MIRÉ, sustainability also means longevity. By creating durable, timeless designs, we encourage conscious ownership: pieces that are worn, cherished, and cared for over many years.

Our Cashmere 5.

TRACEABLE AT EVERY STEP

From goat to garment, every stage of our supply chain is carefully tracked and fully traceable. Most of our materials can be linked directly to the herds and farms where the fibers originated, ensuring complete transparency from start to finish. At MIRÉ, we believe authenticity, sustainability, and quality must go hand in hand. Every yarn, every dye, and every stitch is handled with respect, precision, and integrity, so that what reaches you is both genuine and responsibly made.

MINDFUL CARE FOR TIMELESS CASHMERE

By caring for your MIRÉ cashmere, you extend its life and honour the craftsmanship behind it. With mindful care, it will remain as soft and beautiful as the day you first wore it. Remember: less is best. Caring for 100% natural cashmere knitwear doesn’t have to be complicated.

Everyday Care

  • Fold, don’t hang – to preserve its shape.
  • Rotate wear – give fibres time to recover.
  • Store clean and dry – moths thrive on moisture.
  • Seal for summer – use breathable bags for seasonal storage.
  • Use natural protectors – cedar or lavender help deter moths.
  • Act quickly if needed – a light steam can help remove moth larvae.

Wash Less, Air More
Air your cashmere to refresh it; wash by hand only when truly necessary. Once per season is often enough—and your knit will thank you.

Managing Pilling
Soft fibres naturally pill, even the finest cashmere. Use a specialist fabric shaver to gently remove them—a simple tool that keeps your knits in their best condition.

HOW TO WASH CASHMERE

Hand Wash (Recommended):
Use cold water in a basin with mild wool/cashmere detergent. Gently swish garment 2–3 minutes, then rinse. Press out water—do not twist.

Machine Wash:
Use a delicate/wool cycle in cold water. Place garment in a mesh laundry bag, use wool/cashmere detergent, and spin on low.

Drying:
Do not wring or hang. Lay flat on a towel, reshape, roll to remove excess water, then air dry flat. Keep away from sunlight and heat.

Ironing/Steaming:
Use low wool setting or steamer, with a cloth between iron and fabric.
